400 South Ocean
400 South Ocean Boulevard is a historic oceanfront condominium in Palm Beach, designed by acclaimed architect Edward Durell Stone and completed in December 1962. It was the architect's first apartment building and his first Florida project, and it holds the distinction of being Palm Beach's first condominium and the town's first building with a rooftop pool. The building was designated a local landmark in 2012.
Designed in Stone's New Formalism style, the building has 64 residences and features no interior corridors and a central courtyard water garden with a reflecting pool, designed by the architect's son, landscape architect Edward Durell Stone Jr. Residences range from about 1,700 square feet for two-bedroom units to more than 3,400 square feet for three-bedroom in-town duplexes, finished with materials such as travertine and marble; a major restoration in 2000 was overseen by the architect's son Hicks Stone.
